Government Graduate Positions
The following organisations look for motivated graduates who wish to apply their skills and training to a wide range of economic issues and honours graduates who meet their demands.
The Treasury
The Treasury offers a cadetship programme for students in their 3rd year of study. The Treasury also employs university graduates interested in developing a career as advisers on public policy, economic policy and taxation policy. The Reserve Bank of Australia
The Reserve Bank of Australia has a Cadetship program and a Graduate Development Program. Cadetships are for students in their 3rd year of study who plan to go on to do honours. This involves 2 months of work experience at the Bank over the summer break. It is awarded to high caliber students, typically majoring in economics, econometrics, finance, etc, who intend to complete an honours year. Each student has the costs of their honours year subsidized by the Bank if they are also successful in securing a place on the Graduate Program. Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)

Australia Consumer and Credit Commission (ACCC)
The ACCC is Australia's consumer protection and competition agency. Graduates have the opportunity of working in a range of areas to gain a broad understanding of the work of the ACCC and the Australian Energy Regulatory (AER). For more information have a look at:

Australian Bureau of Agriculture and Resource Economics (ABARE)
The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE), is an Australian government economic research agency that conducts research in the areas of s agriculture, fishing, forestry, energy and minerals industries, and the quality of the Australian environment. International Organizations:
For those seeking employment in international organizations such as the World Bank, IMF, you need to have not only completed an undergraduate degree but also a postgraduate degree. These organizations also look for experience (5-10 years) particularly in relation to policy making. Therefore it is good to work in an organization in which you would gain these skills after having completed an honours degree and go on to do a Masters or PhD. However, some of these organizations offer internship programmes to those enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree. A postgraduate degree is essential if you wish to join an international organization.
The World Bank (WB):
Internship Programme: The World Bank has an internship programme. This is designed to expose graduate students to the work of the WB. The Internship Program at the World Bank offers graduate students an opportunity gain exposure to international development and also improve their skills working in a multicultural environment. To be eligible for the Internship Program, candidates must possess an undergraduate degree and already be enrolled in a full-time graduate study program (pursuing a Master's degree or PhD with plans to return to school in a full-time capacity. Generally, successful candidates have completed their first year of graduate studies or are already well into their PhD programs. Young Professionals Programme:
The WB also has a young professionals programme for those below 32 years of age and have a Master's degree or equivalent at the time of submitting your application.
Junior Professional Associate Programme:
The WB has introduced a Junior Professional Associate Programme for those who are no more than 28 years old, hold the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree (with some relevant experience), a Master's, or be a PhD candidate with a superior academic record.

International Monetary Fund:
The IMF offers an internship programme. This too is offered to those who are pursuing a postgraduate degree. Interns work under the supervision of a senior economist on a research project and at the end of their period at the bank, prepare a research paper. The work experience at the IMF would provide postgraduate students with additional skills to undertake a research degree. Log onto:

United Nations
The UN also offers an internship programme to students enrolled in a post-graduate programme.
