 The 16th HETSA Conference

Travel to and from Melbourne*

Air:

Melbourne airport is the second busiest in Australia and it services all the major international airlines. T
he international terminal is a 100-meter walk from the domestic terminal, and the airport is open 24 hours every day.

Train and Bus:

Regular bus and train services link Melbourne to the other major Australian cities. Interstate trains stop at Spencer Street station, located in the heart of the central business district.

Car:

Conference attendees staying at the conference hotel, the Metropole, will have access to free undercover parking.

Travel within Melbourne:

The Melbourne airport is situated about 30-45 minutes by car from the Metropole Hotel and the St Patrick’s Campus of the Australian Catholic University. Travellers requiring transport from either the airport or railway station are advised to take a taxi. The approximate cost is $35 from the airport and $10 from Spencer Street Station. Taxis are available 24 hours a day.

The Metropole Hotel and St Patrick’s Campus are situated within 5 minutes walking distance from the Melbourne CBD. There are tram, bus and train lines immediately outside both the conference and accommodation venues and taxis may be either hailed on the street or booked in advance.

Climatic Conditions:

Weather in Melbourne is notoriously changeable. Come prepared for sunshine and showers. Daily maximum temperatures will probably range between 12C and 16C; daily minimum temperatures normally fall between 4C and 8C. Frosts are rare. Lecture rooms and hotel rooms are well heated, but warm outdoor clothing is advisable.
