The Bachelor of Economics (Honours) is open to top Economics/Finance
students, and involves a fourth year of study following the
completion of the ordinary three-year degree.

| The Honours program is intended to provide
the most capable students with the opportunity to undertake
advanced course work and engage in an applied research
project leading to a dissertation. Honours course work
is conducted in a small group seminar and the dissertation
involves working under the close supervision of a single
member of staff.

The knowledge and experience gained in
the Honours year provides a solid foundation for work
as an economist in the private, public and academic
sectors. The Honours degree in Economics at the University
of Tasmania has an enviable reputation in Australia
and equips graduates for employment as a professional
economist or provides a basis for undertaking a higher
degree in economics. Graduates find ready employment
and in the past have been placed with employers such
as the public service (both Federal and State), the
Reserve Bank of Australia as well as employers in the
private finance and consulting sectors. For the Finance
student, the knowledge and experience gained in the
Honours year provides a solid foundation for work in
the finance sector.
