Achievements
Career summary
Jeanne is the Deputy Head of School and a Senior Lecturer in Education Studies in the Faculty of Education. Before entering the university sector in 2005, Jeanne spent an extensive career in secondary teaching and school leadership, both overseas and in Australia.
Secondary teaching expertise was in LOTE (French) and English. Prior to taking up a position at the University of Tasmania, she worked for five years as a Lecturer at Central Queensland University, Queensland, in areas including educational psychology, classroom management, instructional design and authentic assessment. Jeanne currently teaches into both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Her undergraduate teaching currently focuses on classroom and behaviour management while teaching at the postgraduate level is predominantly in research methods. Jeanne also supervises a number of research higher degree students.
Areas of research interest include student retention, the theory-practice gap in pre-service teacher education, school-university partnerships, work integrated learning and teacher practice. Jeanne’s publication output includes an edited book, four book chapters and 21 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers.
She has been the recipient of four UTAS institutional research grants since beginning in the Faculty in January, 2010, and is co-recipient of a 2011-2013 ARC Linkage grant, Student retention beyond the compulsory schooling years in rural, regional and disadvantaged communities.
Jeanne is an Editorial Board member of Linguistics, Culture and Education, an Associate Editor for the Higher Education Research and Development journal and a regular reviewer for a number of international journals, including Teaching and Teacher Education.
