Professor Neil Cranston, an expert in educational leadership, has been appointed to the part-time role for a three-year term.
He is the co-editor of Australian School Leadership Today and the co-author of What Is This Thing Called Leadership: Prominent Australians Tell their Stories.
Current research includes participation in the ARC-funded project Student Retention Beyond the Compulsory Years in Rural, Regional and Disadvantaged Communities.
The TQA is a stand-alone authority, accountable directly to the Minister for Education. It plays a strong leadership role in qualifications-related policy and planning across all major areas of education and training in Tasmania.
The TQA advises the Minister about matters relating to qualifications, issues consolidated statements of qualifications, including the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) and accredits courses for senior secondary education.
It is responsible for assessment and certification in senior secondary TCE syllabuses and TQA-accredited courses.
