Young, successful, innovative Tasmanian teachers will be celebrated with the new Southern Cross Young Achievers award sponsored by the University of Tasmania, Faculty of Education Teaching Excellence Award.
This award is for young, innovative, passionate teachers who are no older than 28 years of age who are making a difference to youth and their community.
It provides an opportunity for the broader community to nominate teachers and acknowledge their achievements and contribution to outstanding service in their local community.
Candidates for the aware can either self nominate or may be nominated by someone else. Nominations are accepted nominate.
“Once our students graduate unfortunately we are no longer privy to witness their growth as educators and it is with this award that we ask for the communities help us to nominate outstanding young teachers” said Education Dean, Professor Ian Hay
There are several Southern Cross Young Achiever categories; each has three finalists selected with the winner announced at the Awards Gala Presentation Dinner. The evening culminates when one of the eight category winners is announced as the Premier’s Young Achiever of the Year.
The purpose of the Southern Cross Young Achiever Awards is to acknowledge, encourage and promote the positive achievements of young Tasmanians aged between 14 and 28 years of age.
The winner of each of the eight categories will be presented with a magnificent trophy and a $1,000 Progress Saver Account from the ANZ. The ultimate winner, the Premier's Young Achiever of the Year, will receive a $1,000 grant from the Tasmanian Government, a trophy and a holiday for two anywhere in Australia, flying Qantas and accommodation is provided by Wrest Point.
