I am pleased to announce that Professor Derek Colquhoun has accepted the appointment as the new Head of School of Education University of Tasmania. Professor Colquhoun presently holds the position of Chair in Urban Learning in the Centre for Educational Studies at the University of Hull, UK. He is also the Director of Research within the Faculty of Education, University of Hull.
Professor Colquhoun's academic areas of interest include: Health Promoting Schools; Social Capital and Community Connectedness; School Health Education; Action and Participatory Research; and Education Research Methodology.
Professor Colquhoun is an active research leader and currently holds both editorial and reviewer positions with significant peer review journals that relate to Health Education. Between 2002 to the present, Professor Colquhoun has achieved almost £4m for various research and evaluation projects. He is also actively involved in leading community service projects and is a member of a number of UK and international health-focussed committees and groups.
Professor Colquhoun is the author/co- author of six books, 20 book chapters, and 31 peer review journals, including the Annual Review of Health Social-Science, Health Education Research: Theory and Practice; and the British Journal of Sociology of Education. He has been an externally appointed examiner for UK universities and has completed evaluations for the University of Limerick and Manchester Metropolitan University.
This appointment will see Professor Colquhoun retuning to Australia, where he previously held academic, teaching, and leadership positions with Deakin University, University of Ballarat and Victoria University during the period 1989 to 2002.
