Bachelor of Education (In-service) Professional Experience (PE) is comprised of two placements. Each placement consists of two phases.
PE1 (45 days)
Phase 1 consists of a 15 day period provided to allow preservice teachers to become familiar with the school context. Throughout their placement preservice teachers are required to maintain professional files, as well as trial, evaluate student learning and reflect on their own teaching.
The second phase, which is a continuation of phase 1, is 30 days in total.
In contrast to phase 1, the second phase of ESI424 requires pre-service teachers to assume a much greater degree of responsibility that is 50% of a fulltime teachers load by the end of the 45 day placement, in preparation for the second and final placement.
PE2 (35 days)
Phase 1 consists of 10 days and is an active observational period which allows pre-service teachers to become familiar with the school context. Throughout their placement pre-service teachers are required to maintain professional files, as well as trial, evaluate student learning and reflect on their own teaching.
The second phase, which is a continuation of phase 1, is 25 days in total. In phase 2 the focus shifts towards ensuring that preservice teachers are adequately equipped to enter the teaching profession, in the capacity of a beginning teacher. In contrast to phase 1, in the second phase pre-service teachers are required to assume a much greater degree of responsibility that is 80% of a fulltime teachers load.
