The School of Education uses the Student Placement Management System (SPMS) to record details of all Professional Experience Placements for students throughout their course.
All student details are recorded in the SPMS which uploads information from the University Student Record System (USRS). The SPMS also records the placement history of students.
Below you will find your step by step application process for using SPMS.
The SPMS is a database which allows students to apply for preferences of placement regions and add any comments relevant to the application. Comments should include your specialisation (if relevant), any conflicts of interest or personal reasons for your regional preferences. All comments remain confidential.
At the close of each application period, students are allocated their placements by staff in the Professional Experience Office according to the region and information provided by students in the comments section. This process is repeated for each Professional Experience (PE1-4) placement. Staff process over 2000 applications for Professional Experience placement each year.
Your student record in the SPMS can only be viewed by authorised staff within the School of Education and you (with your log in).
Log on to SPMS using your normal UTAS username and password
Select MY PLACEMENT from the top menu.
Under PLACEMENTS OPEN FOR APPLICATION you will see the relevant unit CODE (i.e. ESH102)
Click APPLY on the right hand side
Select your REGION and click ADD NEW - note if this step is not followed you will not have the ability to save your application and it will not be submitted.
In the COMMENTS BOX please enter any information that may be relevant to your placement.
Click SAVE. Your application now says SUBMITTED - if you do not see this you need to go back and confirm you have completed all steps correctly.
You will be requested to sign a Placement Agreement before your placement is confirmed. Please note that you cannot undertake your Professional Experience placement unless you have signed this document. It can be located at the bottom of the page on SPMS and you need to place a tick in the box to confirm that you have read and agree with the information.

You may return to your application to make amendments up until the closing date.
