Awards and honours
Darren has been an academic in the Faculty of Education at the University of Tasmania since 2005, having previously worked for the University as a Research Fellow in the School of Nursing and University Department of Rural Health. Darren currently designs, coordinates and teaches undergraduate and postgraduate units in Health Science and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in addition to supervising research students in those fields.
Darren has a unique and passionate approach to scholarship that greatly enhances teaching and student learning, promoting student engagement and a shared sense of life-long learning. He has successfully applied this approach in a range of teaching, student learning and research contexts. Through scholarship he has shared his work with others via peer reviewed work in a number of national and international publications and conferences.
Darren's academic career has built upon his previous roles as classroom teacher, administrator and ICT consultant. Prior to teaching Darren was a healthcare clinician, researcher and clinical health services team leader. Throughout his various roles he has built a strong sense of professional accountability and initiated many innovative approaches to education, training and community engagement. Given his innovative and engaging approach to teaching Darren has been the recipient of several teaching awards.
Darren's research interests and PhD are in the role that STS (Science, Technology and Society) and ISR (Information Systems Research) play in contributing to our use and understanding of ICT and organisational change.
Darren has worked as an academic and practitioner, focusing on how to integrate ICT development and organisational change. To that end Darren's field of study and practice has centred on working with multi-professional teams including practitioners, managers, technicians and end users in affecting integrated organisational change through contemporary and innovative uses of technology
