Working with the faculty to develop modules on special education and inclusion of pupils with learning difficulties.
The former Editor of the Bulletin - the Journal of the Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties – [PATOSS] from 2007 to 2010.
Judith is currently writing a commissioned course text book for Health Professionals –‘A practical guide to Congenital Developmental Disorders and learning difficulties’.
Judith Hudson PhD is both a qualified teacher and a chartered psychologist. She has a background in Special Education Needs and Educational Psychology in the field of developmental disorders. Of particular interest is how such disorders impact on learning and how resultant needs can be addressed in the education setting.
Disorders that have been the focus of her practice and research include; Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD, William’s syndrome, Asperger’s syndrome and pervasive developmental disorders [PDD] on the Autistic Spectrum. She was awarded Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association [AMBDA] status in 1993.
Judith was a Special Education Needs (SEN) Teacher and Head of SEN Centre within a rural High School in England until she retired and moved into Higher Education. Since then she has been a Senior lecturer and researcher associated with the University of Gloucestershire,UK and the University of Wales, Bangor, North Wales working on dyslexia and a range of specific learning difficulties as well as Inclusive Education.
She has co-written modules and written and delivered post graduate units on specific learning difficulties and the more recent qualification the National SEN Coordinator Award [NASENCO].
She has been an Honorary Visiting Researcher to the school of psychology at the University of Tasmania, and University of Otago New Zealand, researching Prevalence, Assessment and Treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder-ADHD.
Most recently her ongoing research is investigating social and educational support for families with children on the Autistic Spectrum in Australia particularly following the funding and support program launched in 2009.
Her Masters research at the University of Wales, Bangor, N Wales looked at Colour naming speeds and performance in dyslexic and non- dyslexic children. Her Doctorate research Degree completed with the University of Gloucestershire investigated responses to spelling interventions in five dyslexic adolescents, as a function of their entire socio-cultural environment.
Formerly an advisor on SEN to School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programs, and lecturer in Special Education on Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) teaching programs she is also currently an associate Academy Governor with responsibility for SEN and Disabilites. She served on the Welsh National Executive of NASEN, was a volunteer family advocate and professional witness for appeals in SEN tribunals and has been a School Governor for some 24 years. She is also currently an external examiner to the Manchester Metropolitan University [MMU] UK on post-graduate courses in Autism, Dyslexia, -Specific Learning Difficulties and the professional NASENCO Award.
