Achievements
I use a trans-disciplinary approach that recognises the inter-relationships between disciplines. I draw on this approach to promote new ways of understanding and addressing the complexity embedded in socio-cultural, educational, historical and environmental interfaces.
My research interest focus on strategies for preventing the creation of ‘at-risk’ groups by an assumed ‘not at-risk’; and overcoming the diseases of greed and primitive self-ethics.
My research includes studies in:
- interface of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians and non-Indigenous Australians;
- the implications of educational justice and classroom practice for non-Indigenous teachers;
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education and cultural justice;
- Australian (non-Indigenous) identity in Aboriginal Australian presence inc civics and citizenship in post-colonial contexts;
- Understanding and over-coming racism in post-colonial and multi-cultural contexts;
- ‘Reconciliation’ as praxis;
- Reducing the risk of creating young people at-risk;
- The inference of ‘sustainable’ education in the face of unsustainable economic growth models.
- Australian literature (1880 -1920) and Australian art (1800- 1960s) as tools of textual analysis in Indigenous-non-Indigenous relations.
I have supervised students at PhD and Masters level. Student topics include: closing the gap.
