Raising the Bar, Closing the Gap is a two-year pilot project delivered by the Tasmanian Department of Education and partially funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. It forms part of a national series of pilot projects aiming to accelerate sustainable improvement in literacy and numeracy, especially in low SES school communities, with Raising the Bar, Closing the Gap placing particular emphasis on literacy. Thirty-six target primary schools have been selected to participate in the pilot. A team from the Faculty of Education, led by Professor Ian Hay, Dean of the Faculty, has been appointed to evaluate the Raising the Bar, Closing the Gap project over 2009 and 2010.
