The Outdoor and Sustainability Education teaching area is an 8 unit major, which is available for those enrolled in the Bachelor of Education, or those from outside the Faculty of Education who wish to undertake an Outdoor and Sustainability Education major or individual units as electives, as part of their course.
In addition, there are two electives offered with a strong focus on skill development in the areas of rock climbing and paddling.
Where possible all units involve a theory-practice approach that aims to provide learning in the appropriate contexts to maximise learning opportunities.
Bachelor of Education (Specialisations)
Bachelor of Education pre-service teachers choose from two teaching specialisations. These include the option to combine the Outdoor Education specialisation major with either Health and Physical Education OR Design & Technology.
Bachelor of Education (Primary)
The Bachelor of Education (Primary) structure includes four free-choice electives. Pre-service teachers may undertake outdoor education units as their elective options.
Bachelor of Physical Activity Studies
The Bachelor of Physical Activity Studies structure includes two core Outdoor Education units. It also includes a minor option titled Outdoor & Environmental Studies which includes two Outdoor Education units. The structure also includes four electives and students may elect to undertake all four electives in Outdoor Education.
