The Outdoor Education teaching specialisation at the University of Tasmania has been graduating students since 2006. With access to iconic locations such as Cradle Mountain/Lake St Clair, Freycinet National Park and the Walls of Jerusalem, students are involved in theory-practice learning approaches that embed a strong sense of community and connection to self, others and the natural environment.
The units we provide aim to prepare graduates who are well versed in theory-practice approaches to teaching, who are confident leaders and who understand the ongoing nature of professional development required to be an effective outdoor educator.
Prospective students are invited to become involved in a community of learners, where learning is undertaken on campus, and in a variety of field locations. Recent graduates working in the field have made the following comments about how the course has prepared them for working in the outdoors.

The course had a good reputation amongst people I knew, including friends, family and the wider community. My studies at UTAS have provided me with the soft and hard skills I needed to begin work in the outdoor education industry. After completing my degree, I was able to find work in both Tasmania and interstate as an outdoor/adventure education instructor and teacher" (Adam Lucas, Senior Instructor, Graduated with honours 2007) |

"The Outdoor Education specialisation at UTAS has been a challenging, but extremely rewarding career path. We have travelled to, and experienced some amazing parts of Tasmania, learning as students, how we can help others experience the outdoors when we are teachers." (Jake Salmon, Current Student 2010) |
