Why did I decide to come to Uni?
I was a boiler maker/welder by trade and I always gained enjoyment out of helping and training the young apprentices I worked with and I often thought that becoming a Design and Technology teacher would be a great career option. Also being a father of three young children, the life of a teacher allows me to fit in with the times and holidays of my children’s schooling. Utas was always the preferred option. In my degree they offer some units online and important hands on units in the Design and Technology specialisations.
What is my favourite unit/why?
I really enjoy the Educational units we are required to complete in our degree as I can relate a lot of what I learn to the development of my own children as they start school. The Design units are also very enjoyable and cover a lot of diverse areas.
Highlights so far?
The diversity of the degree. We have covered all areas from design to practice and education units that have allowed me to learn and experiment on a vast range of topics.
Advice for future students?
Don’t make the same mistake as I did, in that I enrolled 3-4 times before I actually started. The sooner you make the choice, the sooner you can get out and start teaching. Look at this degree as being a small term sacrifice for a long term gain!
