Why did you decide to study the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood)?
I have been caring for young children for about 7 years now and I love it. I decided to do a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) to fulfil my dream of being a Kindergarten Teacher.
What is your favourite unit/subject? Why?
My favourite unit so far has been the elective EDT105 - Design for Learning Spaces as I learned so much in relation to the design of the classroom or child care environment and how this it can affect children's behaviour. I have also enjoyed the units relating to Human Development as these have helped me develop a better understanding of developmental theories and how to apply these in practice.
Highlights and challenges of your study/experience so far?
The highlight of my studies so far was receiving a letter of Commendation at the end of 2011 for outstanding achievement. I was going through a particularly difficult time throughout the year with illness and personal issues so this letter meant a lot to me. The greatest challenge so far is missing out on the benefit of face-to-face learning. Whilst I find it good that this type of learning gives me flexibility, I feel I would learn better surrounded by peers in a more structured classroom environment as I find it hard to get motivated sometimes.
Any advice for future students?
If you are not sure of something, always ask for help. Whether it is teacher or fellow student, there is always someone who is happy to help.
Where you would like to see yourself in 5 years time?
I see myself as having finished my degree and hope I will be teaching my own Kindergarten class.
