Course you are enrolled in:
Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood)
Are you studying online, in Launceston or Cradle Coast:
Online
Secondary school you attended?
Newlands High School in Victoria
Why did you decide to study the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood)?
I have always had an interest in becoming a teacher and now that some on my children have started primary school, I decided that I wanted/needed a change. My previous vocation was banking and the hours would not suit my family life style, so now I am fulfilling a life time dream.
What is your favourite unit/subject? Why?
I have really enjoyed the unit ESH250 Intro to Science & Technology Education as it has opened my eyes to a new way of looking at things around me.
Highlights and challenges of your study/experience so far?
Challenges I find are when assessment tasks are due during school holidays. As I have four children (aged 7 and under at home) trying to study and do the tasks during this time can be a big challenge. Highlights have been the friends I have made online and the opportunity to do some wonderful Professional Experience placements.
Any advice for future students?
I would advise to not overburden yourself. Try to balance it all out, ensure you have the time available to study, have some form of recreation and have time for family and home commitments and finally that you have some form of support who will help out with the other commitments (such as housework - cooking, cleaning, washing) when you need to take extra time for assessment task or sitting an exam.
Where you would like to see yourself in 5 years time?
At the end of my course and looking forward to rejoining the work force.
Any other comments?
I am studying part-time and a stay at home mother of four children (7, 6, 4 & 2) and I find that I need to be fairly organised to ensure that I am on top of all that needs to be done and that as an online student you need to be motivated and engaged with what you are doing.
