Course studied at UTAS:
Bachelor of Education (Primary)
Year of graduation:
1999
Why did you decide to come to uni?
I found myself directed to the Disability Liaison Officer and the Careers Councilor at UTAS after becoming disenchanted and frustrated with my prior work. The experience was VERY supportive and eye opening.
How did you make your choices prior to uni about the course and subjects that you wanted to study?
To be honest the last place I ever saw myself was teaching, but due to the guidance given to me by the Careers Councilor I am now in a job I love!
How has your study helped you in your career?
I have taught in England, Queensland, Victoria & Tasmania. In conversation I have discussed University experiences with a wide range of my colleagues. It has become clear to me that UTAS has a very unique advantage over other Universities, as its geographical environment and the courses create a community. My experience at UTAS was of a close nit community, where peers knew each other well and supported each other. This community also included the lectures and staff, who also knew and supported us through out university.
Where are you working now?
In a wonderful primary school in Melbourne.
What does your work involve?
Teaching the next generation.
Plans for the future?
I am looking into speaking on areas of behaviour management.
Highlights of UTAS?
The feeling of teamwork and support, from those around me and of course the friendships.
Favourite units and what made them your favourites?
Difficult to say, I really did enjoy them all! I suppose my elective Psychology, because human behaviour and the study of it, is fascinating.
Any advice for future students?
Your time at university goes SO quickly make sure you take full advantage of every experience.
Any other comments?
When I look back at my time at UTAS it is with real fondness. I feel very fortunate to have had such an awesome experience and to have come in contact with so many brilliantly wonderful people.
