Montagu, Circular Head, Tasmania.
Bachelor of Education (Primary).
Hellyer College.
I was working at TAFE teaching adults who had difficulty reading and writing and I decided that I wanted to work on prevention rather than cure.
I’ve enjoyed most of my units but my favourite from last semester was Society and Environment (advanced) because I found it really inspiring. As I near the end of my degree, the units are more and more practical and inspiring me to get out there and start teaching.
Studying online is hard because you miss out on the incidental communication with peers and staff and there is so much less opportunity to throw an idea around and explore it. Sadly, I don’t find that a discussion board takes the place of a conversation over coffee.
That said, however, the enormous pro of online study is that, even from my remote location, I can study the degree of my choice and I have access to support from helpful peers and staff. I’ve found that high quality, online support is always there if you ask for it. The other great benefit of online study is that it can fit in around my work, family and other commitments.
My advice is probably the same as everyone else’s; be organised.
I’d love to be teaching a primary class in Circular Head.
I have learned so much in this degree and the professional experience placements have been wonderful.
