I really enjoy observing how my teaching has improved as well as the progress my students are making thanks to the increased awareness which being better educated provides me. I teach young children, mostly of preschool age; in the classroom last semester, in ESG 721, Language and Communication, I got to apply what I was focusing on, that was, teaching reading to young EFL learners. My students went above and beyond my expectations.
I prefer Current Issues in Second Language Learning. The cultural and anthropological conflicts I have encountered in my past experiences abroad have long been food for thought for me and the coursework in this unit is certainly broadening my understanding of the subject.
Mid-year intake is available for this course

Whether on-campus of off-campus, each student should allow approximately 10 hours of focused study per unit, per week. This estimate includes on-campus lectures, tutorials and workshops which generally equate to 3-4 hours per unit, per week.
Students who graduate under the TESOL specialisation will have TESOL stated on their qualification ie. awarded Graduate Certificate in Education (TESOL) or Master of Education (TESOL).
Please note that your official academic records (which can be obtained from the Student Centre) will specify unit titles and the grades of assessment.
The University of Tasmania believes that as far as possible a student's financial situation should not be allowed to be an impediment to a university education. With the assistance of State and local governments, business and industry in Tasmania, and generous benefactors, it is able to provide awards to make access to the benefits of tertiary education easier.
The Tasmania Scholarships program runs on a calendar year basis. Applications for most awards commencing in Semester 1 open at the beginning of August and close strictly on 31 October in the year prior.
For more information see Scholarships.

Most units require students to have access to prescribed text books in order to complete assignments. Take into account the costs of stationery, resource materials for assignments and postage. All units have some online component so broadband internet access costs must also be taken into consideration. The university has computer laboratories which are available for on-campus students to use.
The Co-op Bookshop offers general books; textbooks and stationery, located in the Student Union Building on the Hobart campus or Newnham Drive Launceston campus. Alternatively you can purchase your texts online from the Coop Bookshop.
Online students will need to liaise directly with the Student Centre with regard to their ID cards. The current procedure is for students to send a passport photo and proof of ID and signature (e.g. photocopy of your drivers licence) to the Student Centre, Locked Bag 1345, Launceston 7250. This can also be sent electronically to the Student Centre. The student ID card will give you ready access to the UTAS libraries and access to reciprocal interstate university libraries.

The assessment expectation for a 12.5% unit is the equivalent of 5,000 words. Each unit generally requires you to complete 2 assignments. There are various ways to meet this requirement, via essay writing, review papers, reports and journals.
All of these functions and more are managed by logging into the eStudentCentre. A tour through the eStudentCentre is also available.
All withdrawals must be managed via the eStudentCentre.
It is important that students are aware of Withdrawal Dates as the date that you choose to withdraw may result in an academic penalty or financial liability. Students who withdraw after the census date due to special circumstances may apply for remission using the Domestic and International Remission Form and Guidelines.
International students are requested to contact their International Student Advisor for guidance.
Domestic Leave of Absence forms and International Leave of Absence forms are available from the eStudentCentre.
International students may be granted up to one year leave of absence. A leave of absence may affect your student visa so it is necessary that you consult your International Student Advisor first.
Domestic students may also be granted up to one year leave of absence. Failure to complete a Leave of Absence and non-enrolment for 1 year requires that students re-apply for their position in the course.
There is provision to undertake honours after the completion of the Master of Education. A high level of academic achievement overall is a pre-requisite and eligible students will be invited to participate in the honours program.
