A new Biomedical Engineering specialisation of our Bachelor of Engineering will commence in 2013. This specialisation synthesises Engineering topics in mechanical, electronic and computer engineering with maths and physics; and medical topics including human anatomy, physiology, medical equipment and instrumentation. The degree includes a final year Biomedical Engineering project. The specialisation is entered into after the common first 1.5 years of the Bachelor of Engineering degree, and takes four years in total. There are good career prospects, with Biomedical Engineers working in medical technology and device companies, biomedical engineering research and development environments, hospitals, government health organisations and interacting with other engineering and medical professionals. Details of the Biomedical Engineering specialisation will be appearing in the UTAS Course and Unit Handbook shortly. There will be a limited quota for this specialisation.
