Ralph will be a University Associate in the School of English, Journalism and European Languages during the period August 2010 - July 2013.
The life and work of the first two professors of English at the University of Tasmania: William Henry Williams (1893 - 1925) and Albert Booth Taylor (1926 - 1957).
The English Department's Drama School, the Glebe Theatre Players (1947 - 1954), founded and directed by Joyce Eyre, the first permanent female member of the University's English staff. This subject will form a chapter in the proposed history of the University's Philip Smith Building.
The practice and place of poetry in the Tasmanian community with a focus on the work of Vivian Smith, Margaret Scott, Graeme Hetherington, Clive Sansom and Syd Harrex. Ralph's recent article on Syd Harrex's poetry, '"Past shapes of things present" in the poetry of Syd Harrex', appear in The Shadow of the Precursor, ed. Glenn, Haque, Kooyman and Bierbaum (Cambridge Scholars, 2012). His ADB entry on Clive Sansom is forthcoming.
