English Honours 2011 - Coursework Units

Students must complete 4 coursework units as part of their Honours program, including the compulsory unit, HEA408 Research Methodology. Students may choose to vary the number of units taken in any one semester. Research Methodology will be taught intensively in the first weeks of semester 1, but elective units will normally be taught in weekly 3-hour seminars running for 9 weeks. This leaves time at the end of each semester for students to work independently on their essays and their research projects. Honours seminars are interactive and usually require students to prepare in-class presentations. Honours students are expected to have completed all required reading prior to their seminars, so it is important to start reading the set texts as early as possible, preferably before the course begins.

Assessment
The English Honours program is weighted so that the coursework units comprise 50% of the final Honours result. Students are expected to produce written work equivalent to 5000 words for each coursework unit. Students must pass all coursework units as well as the Honours Research Project to obtain an Honours degree.

In 2011 we are offering the following coursework units:

Semester 1
Semester 2

Note: Unit offerings may be subject to change, depending on student numbers.
