Associate
Professor Chris Ackerley, MA (Cant) PhD (Tor)
Honorary Fellow 2005-2007
Internationally known for his work on
Samuel Beckett, Chris Ackerley is Associate Professor of English at
the University of Otago, New Zealand. His area of expertise is Modernism,
with an emphasis on the experimental novel. His particular interest
is annotation, which may account for his peculiar preference for facts
over theory. He is currently working on research projects on J.G. Farrell,
Malcolm Lowry, and Samuel Beckett.
Chris’s publications include A Companion to Under the Volcano,
co-authored with Lawrence J. Clipper (1984), Demented Particulars:
the Annotated Murphy (1998), and The Grove Press Companion
to Samuel Beckett, co-authored with Stanley E. Gontarski (2004).
Chris will be an Honorary Fellow in English at the University of Tasmania
during the period 2005-2007. During this time he will make regular visits
to UTas to work on J.G. Farrell: a Literary Encyclopedia, a
collaborative research project with Assoc/Prof Ralph Crane. His first
visit will be in May/June 2005.
