Preparation, Enabling and Foundation programs
UTAS offers a number of programs aimed to improve your academic skills and familiarise you with university. One of these may have been a condition or recommendation on your offer. We know that taking a program such as UniStart can make all the difference for new students, especially those returning to study.
UniStart aims to help you develop the essential skills required for independent learning and success at University, such as critical thinking, critical reading and academic writing. It is free to Domestic students and
is available as a 5 day face-to-face program before semester begins or online before and throughout the semester. (UniStart is not recommended for students studying UPP or a Diploma of University Studies because the same material is included in those courses)
The University Preparation Program (UPP) is a longer
course designed to provide adult learners with academic learning skills and the confidence and personal skills needed to succeed at University. It can be undertaken as a full course, or UPP units can be added along side some other courses for one or two semesters. It is also offered as an intensive Summer School before the main semester.
Foundation units provide bridging knowledge for specific disciplines and can help you meet an entry requirement, eg for Maths, Chemistry, Life Science, Computer Applications or Physics.
Most Preparation, Enabling and Foundation programs have a special course which is different to your course of preference. For example if you do UniStart in preparation for the Bachelor of Arts, you will see both X0A UniStart and 13A Bachelor of Arts listed when you go to eStudentCentre to manage your enrolment.
