What is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist?
Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) are four-year university-trained allied health professionals qualified to perform assessments and prescribe exercise to a variety of clients from the very healthy to the chronically ill. Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA), the professional organisation responsible for EP accreditation, sets strict guidelines for membership and accreditation to ensure an outstanding level of services provided by EPs (see http://www.essa.org.au).
At present there are several accredited AEPs available at the University of Tasmania to provide safe fitness assessments and physical activity counselling. These AEP's have expertise and established research careers in the fields of exercise and cardiovascular disease, diabetes/metabolism and ageing.
