Accessing your Class Timetable

Lectures/Tutorials

First year units commonly have lectures and tutorials. Some units will have practicals, workshops and forums. The lecture will be the first lesson that you will have to attend for each unit and from there the lecturer will explain the design of the unit.

Lectures

Commonly first year lectures are held in large lecture theatres where students listen to the lecturer speak and take notes. Lecture times are listed on the UTAS website so you know where and when to attend.

Tutorials

Tutorials are smaller classes in a more traditional classroom setting. Tutors run these classes and promote discussion about the current topic/issue/subject. This is a good chance for students to clarify information and engage in discussions. Tutorials commonly run from the second week of semester as groups are decided within the first lecture of each unit.

Unit Outline

Unit Outlines are handed out to students within the first lecture of a unit. This document contains information about the structure of the unit, learning outcomes, assessment details as well as having the contact details of the Unit Coordinator and teaching staff.

If you did not get a copy in the first lecture you should be able to contact your School reception or teaching staff directly for a copy. Some units may have an online presence through MyLO – a copy of the Unit Outline may be kept there.

Unit Outlines are something that students return to throughout the whole semester so it is important to keep your copy.

My Learning Online (MyLO)

MyLO refers to My Learning Online. Many units are supported by an online component, where students can access learning material such as lecture notes, recorded lectures, assignment questions, test answers and previous exam questions.
