Emeritus Professor Arthur Frederick Cobbold, OBE AM BSc PhD (Lond) Hon MD 11.1.1920 – 19.12.2009
No early alumnus of the UTAS School of Medicine needs an introduction to Arthur Cobbold. From 1964, when he arrived as Foundation Professor of Physiology, to his retirement 21 years later – with 13 of those years as Dean of Medicine – he very much shaped the School and the lives of many of those in it.
Professor Arthur Cobbold was an inspirational lecturer, a highly competent researcher, an excellent administrator and a noted humourist who delivered many memorable after-dinner graduation speeches. He was much loved by his students and over three decades had immense influence on all issues medical in this state.
It is a fitting memorial to the late Professor Cobbold that an annual lecture on contemporary medical issues will again influence medical thinking in Tasmania and that the support to endow this lecture in perpetuity will come from those who were themselves most closely influenced by his work and mentorship.
As a medical alumnus of the UTAS School of Medicine, I am asking you to join us in this endeavour by giving generously to fund a perpetual lecture in memory of Arthur Cobbold. Your gift is tax deductible and you will be investing in ensuring that medical education in Tasmania continues to be a priority.
Read more about how we intend the lecture to work in this downloadable PDF brochure.
Make your gift securely online or contact Mandy in the UTAS Foundation Office on (03) 6226 1920 to discuss alternative means of making your gift.
