Our Tasmanian icon under threat –
YOU CAN HELP SAVE OUR TASSIE DEVIL!!!! |

Update Report on Tassie Devil Appeal - May 2005
This important appeal continues to receive support from around Australia and overseas - more than AUD$57,000 in donations and pledges so far. The money is being used to research the causes of, and hopefully a cure for, the Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumour Disease. In March, Heidi Kolkert and Willow Farmer were awarded the inaugural Dr Eric Guiler Honours Scholarships and Dr Menna Jones received the inaugural Dr Eric Guiler research grant. Dr Guiler was an eminent researcher into Tasmanian Fauna (including the Tassie Devil). The Tasmania Wildlife Research Advisory Committee (TWRAC) allocates the funds. Further grants and scholarships will be announced in August.
The Tasmanian Minister for the Environment, the Honourable Judy Jackson MHA, launched a new program encouraging Australian schools to help raise funds for the appeal in Hobart in May. Schools around Tasmania and from as far away as Queensland have already begun fundraising activities and we are looking forward to other schools becoming involved.
On behalf of the University of Tasmania Foundation, I would like to express our thanks and deep appreciation to all who have supported the Appeal and I wholeheartedly encourage others to give whatever support they can to save this Tasmanian and Australian icon.
