Career Summary I am an academic traveller who has worked in a range of disciplines and environments.
My academic career began with a four year stint as a tutor in Science, Technology and Society while I was completing a doctorate on the factors affecting the travel decisions of Brisbane residents (at Griffith University).
After submitting my thesis (in 1990), I worked with Prof. Ian Lowe (one of my PhD supervisors) to develop a greenprint for the development of a sustainable society in Tasmania.
I moved into the post-doctoral realm with a 30-month appointment as an ARC Research Associate working with Prof. John Holmes at the University of Queensland on the potential role of pastoral leasehold tenure to facilitate the sustainable occupation of Australias rangelands.
The need for an ongoing income led me to take up a position contributing to the development of the Metropolitan Air Quality Strategy in the NSW EPA.
I accepted an opportunity to return to academia, lecturing in the area of Technology Studies at Edith Cowan University.
Following the great budget squeeze of 1997, I accepted a position in the Qld Department of Environment. I contributed to the establishment of the EPA and have since worked in the Environmental Policy and Environmental Sciences Divisions.
I took up a 10-month fractional appointment to lecture in the Urban and Regional Planning discipline at Queensland University of Technology in 2002.
I taught geography on a half-time basis at Queensland University of Technology from 2005-2009.
