Anna is a Senior Research Fellow with the Collaborative Research Network: Research Futures Program Sustainability Theme (an Australian Government funded collaboration between the University of the Sunshine Coast, the University of Tasmania and Griffith University). Anna's research program has developed from her involvement and leadership in urban sustainability and regional planning projects as a practitioner, researcher and educator. It is interdisciplinary in nature and informed by her background in social science. Much of her research is practically informed and applied.

Anna is a member of the Tasmanian Climate Action Council (Tasmanian Government appointment), is Vice-President of Sustainable Living Tasmania, and a member of the Planning Institute of Australia.

Anna has a long held active interest in sustainability and integrated strategic challenges for urban places and regions. Following completion of her PhD at the Climatic Impacts Centre, Macquarie University in the early 1990s, she has worked on urban sustainability and environmental policy and planning issues in research, tertiary education, consulting and advocacy roles in both the private and university sectors.
Anna has been actively involved in numerous government, industry and collaborative stakeholder activities and technical working groups as a respected expert at national, state and local government level. A number of these have been high-level committees and sate government Ministerial appointments. Anna has made significant contributions via the design, development and roll out of pioneering and collaborative sustainable transport initiatives and climate change adaptation projects. She is the holder of a number of significant awards, including an International Women's Day Award (2007) from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in recognition of ongoing commitment to climate change research and education.
