Facilities - Controlled Environment Glasshouse

Controlled Environment Glasshouse

Temperature control in glasshouses is quite variable, at our facility ranging from 15-30 degrees C. Growth cabinets offer very accurate temperature control, but use artificial light sources. The controlled environment glasshouse was designed for accurate temperature control (within 1 degree C of setpoint) under natural light conditions.

This glasshouse features six individually controllable cells with accurate temperature control under natural light conditions to allow for the study of, for example a temperature gradient under natural light conditions. Humidity and CO2 control is also provided in this glasshouse. Extension and/or supplementary lighting is provided with incandescent and/or high pressure sodium lighting.

The glasshouse is particularly useful for ecological and climate change studies, and provides a useful experimental control role for the Free Air CO2 Enrichment Facility (FACE). For more information on the FACE facility or on ecological research, click here.
