Northern Florence Nightingale Association Bursary (Rule 95)

The Northern Florence Nightingale Association provided care and support for retired Tasmanian nurses for over 50 years, mainly assisting with their accommodation and rental costs.

In 2007, the Association determined to wind up its affairs and to provide their residual funds to the University of Tasmania to fund a bursary for students entering the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Academic Senate of the University has agreed to the foundation of a bursary.  These are the rules:

Rules:
  1. An amount of $10,364 donated by the Northern Florence Nightingale Association to the University of Tasmania, together with any interest from time to time forms the endowment of a bursary to be called the “Northern Florence Nightingale Association Bursary ".
  2. The bursary will be awarded to a student who is eligible to enter the Bachelor of Nursing course.
  3. The bursary will be awarded by a selection committee comprising:
    1. The Chair of Academic Senate, or nominee; and
    2. The Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery or nominee.
The bursary is to be awarded to a student who in the opinion of the selection committee would merit financial support but has not received the support of another University of Tasmania scholarship or bursary.
  4. The annual value of the bursary will be $500, or any greater amount determined by the selection committee having regard to the income of the fund of the endowment.
  5. The selection committee will determine all other matters concerning the bursary, including advertising, application procedures and the method and time of payment.
