Allan J Foster Memorial Prize (Rule 26)

 

The Alcohol and Drug Foundation –  Tasmania Inc. donated $2,000 to the University. The Foundation asked that the gift be used to endow a prize in the Faculty of Health Science in memory of Dr Allan J Foster. The Council of the University agreed to the foundation of a prize, and as a formality remakes these rules.

Rules
  1. The amount of $2,000, together with any interest from time to time, forms the endowment of a prize to be called the Allan J Foster Memorial Prize.
  2. The prize will be awarded annually to the student in 5th or 6th year of the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery who, in the opinion of the Head of the Discipline of Psychiatry, submits the best essay on a topic of alcohol or drugs.
  3. All students in the 5th or 6th year of the MBBS course are eligible for the prize. The Discipline of Psychiatry will issue an annual call for applications for this prize.
  4. The annual value of the prize will be set by the Scholarships Management Committee from time to time, having regard to the income from the endowment.
