The Fiona Allan Prize (Rule 49)
Whereas the family of the late Fiona Elizabeth Allan have given the University the sum of $2,500 with the object of founding an annual prize in memory of Fiona Elizabeth Allan, who shortly after graduating as a Master of Psychology in 1977, died in a trekking accident in Western Nepal, and whereas they have indicated their wish that the prize be awarded to an Honours graduate in Psychology and whereas the said sum has been paid to and accepted by the Council of the University which has agreed to the foundation of the said prize in the terms declared in these rules, it is hereby provided as follows:
Rules
- The aforesaid sum together with any accumulations of income from time to time added thereto shall form the endowment of a prize to be called ‘The Fiona Allan Prize’.
- The prize shall be of such value as may be determined from time to time in accordance with the income from the endowment provided that in the first year of the award of the prize the value shall be not less than $200.
- The prize shall be awarded annually to the candidate who shows the greatest proficiency in the first year of the Master of Psychology degree course, provided that the candidate’s performance only in the course work part of the curriculum shall be taken into account.
- Only those candidates who are enrolled as full‑time students for the Master of Psychology degree shall be eligible for the award of the prize.
- If in any year the Faculty of Arts considers that no candidate is of sufficient merit the award shall be withheld and the amount of the prize for that year shall be added to the capital sum of the gift.
