Frank W Fay Prize in Surgery (Rule 28)
Doctors FR and PW Fay and Mrs GL Roberts donated $3000 to the University to honour the memory of their father Frank W Fay, MC and bar, MBBS (Melb), who died in 1969 after a distinguished surgical career in Hobart commencing in 1923 when he came to Tasmania from Melbourne. The donors asked that the gift be used to endow a prize in his honour, and that the prize be awarded for an essay on an area of surgery that was of special interest to the late Dr FW Fay. The Council of the University agreed to the foundation of a prize, and these rules replace the original rules.
Rules
- The amount of $3000, together with any interest from time to time, forms the endowment of a prize to be called the Frank W Fay Prize in Surgery.
- The prize will be awarded annually to the student in the 6th year of the medical course who presents the best paper on surgery at a separate essay exam.
- The annual value of the prize will be set by the Scholarships Management Committee from time to time, having regard to the income from the endowment.
