Gwen Donnelly Memorial Award (Rule 9)
The Council of the University of Tasmania in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on it by the University of Tasmania Act 1991 hereby makes the following Rules:
Whereas friends and colleagues of the late Gwen Donnelly have donated a sum of $5,250 to the University for the purpose of perpetuating her memory and marking her substantial contribution to the Australian Federation of University Women; and whereas the donors have requested that the sum be used to assist a student in financial need to complete a course of study in the Faculty of Arts in the University at Hobart; and whereas the University has accepted the said sum on the terms set forth in these rules; it is hereby provided as follows:
Rules
- The fund, together with any accumulations of income from time to time added thereto, shall form the endowment of the Gwen Donnelly Memorial Award.
- In each calendar year the selection committee may make a cash award out of the endowment (whether capital or income) to an eligible student in financial need.
- A student who has completed the first year of full-time study in the Faculty of Arts in the University of Tasmania at Hobart, is an eligible student.
- The selection committee shall comprise the Dean of the Faculty of Arts (or nominee), one other member of the University nominated by the Dean, and two members nominated by the Australian Federation of University Women of Tasmania (Southern Branch).
- The selection committee shall take into account the financial means and academic attainment’s of candidates, but financial means shall be the major criterion.
- The Dean of the Faculty of Arts shall determine the procedures relevant to the award including advertising application procedures and closing dates.
- These Rules take effect from 27 May 1994.
