John Daly Memorial Prize (Rule 16)
Dr and Mrs David Daly donated $500 to the University in 1974 to honour the memory of their son John. The Council of the University agreed to the foundation of a prize in the terms desired by the donors at the time, but because of changes in the medical curriculum the Council makes these revised Rules.
Rules
- The amount of $500, together with any interest from time to time, forms the endowment of a prize to be called the John Daly Memorial Prize.
- The prize shall be awarded annually to a student in the School of Medicine in the final summative clinical examination in the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree course who has passed, at the first attempt, all examinations during the preceding 5 years of the course and who gains the highest standard in the Discipline of Community Health and General Practice.
- The prize is a cash prize and a medal. The annual value of the prize is to be determined from time to time, having regard to the income from the endowment, and making allowance for the cost of inscribing the medal for each individual award.
- The medal is to be inscribed with the name of the winner, and will be presented at an official Faculty ceremonial event immediately before the University Graduation Ceremony, by the donors or their representative, or by a senior member of the Faculty of Health Science.
- The prize is to retain its separate identity and must not be combined with any other prize or award.
- During their lifetimes Dr and Mrs Daly shall be notified officially each year by the University of the prize winner.
- The winner will be told the name of the donors and will be encouraged to write a brief thank you note to the donors.
