The John Fox Memorial Prize (Rule 6)

 

Whereas friends and colleagues of the late Dr John Fox, Senior Lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Tasmania, with the object of commemorating his substantial contribution to the University in a variety of capacities, subscribed a sum of $5,575; and whereas the donors have asked that the sum be used to endow a prize in his honour, and whereas the said sum has been paid to and accepted by the University which has agreed to the foundation of the said prize in the terms declared in these rules, it is hereby provided as follows:

Rules
  1. The aforesaid sum together with any accumulation of income from time to time added thereto shall form the endowment of a prize to be called The John Fox Memorial Prize.
  2. The prize shall be awarded annually to the female first year student obtaining the highest marks in KYA100 Physics 1 and KMA105 Calculus and KMA102 Linear Algebra, and who indicates an intention to proceed to second year units in Physics and Mathematics, and to major in one of those disciplines at third year level.
  3. The prize shall be awarded on the recommendation of the Academic Dean of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology.
  4. In the event that any one or both of the subjects Physics 1 and Calculus and Linear Algebra cease to exist under those names, the prize shall be awarded for such other subjects as the Faculty considers appropriate.
