Adrian La Palombara Annual Appeal Scholarship (Rule 132)
Mr Mitchel Martin-Weber, a University of Tasmania alumnus, provided the University of Tasmania Foundation (Foundation) with a $100,000 gift to the 2010 Annual Appeal to endow two scholarships to recognise his close friend Adrian La Palombara.
The University, through the Foundation, matched the gift by providing a further $100,000.
These are the rules of the scholarship.

6.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation or nominee; The Dean of the Faculty of Business or nominee; and Mr Mitchel Martin-Weber, should he wish to be involved in the process.
7. The mathematics and physics scholarship will be awarded by the UTAS Foundation on advice from the Head of the School of Mathematics and Physics.
8. The mathematics and physics scholarship will be tenable for one year and awarded to a female Bachelor of Science with Honours student in the disciplines of physics and mathematics. The scholarship will be awarded in physics or mathematics in alternate years, commencing with physics. Preference will be given to physics students studying in the area of optical astronomy, however other areas will be considered.
9. The scholarships are tenable for three and one year respectively, provided that:
the student studies full-time or to an extent that the UTAS Foundation deems equivalent to full-time; the student’s progress in each year is considered by the UTAS Foundation to be satisfactory; and the student is not in receipt of another scholarship from the University of Tasmania.
10. If, at any time, the selection committee for either scholarship considers the progress of the student it has selected to be unsatisfactory, it may terminate or suspend the scholarship for one year. If the scholarship is suspended, the selection committee may re-award it to the same student after that year, if it considers that the student's academic record justifies that action.
11. All other matters concerning the scholarship, including the frequency of awards offered, the value of each award, advertising, application procedures, and the method and time of payment will be determined by the UTAS Foundation.
