Alister Tavendale Tasmania University Scholarship in Physics (Rule 38)

Dr Alister Tavendale completed his doctorate at the University of Tasmania in 1963 and was a joint recipient of the American Nuclear Society's Radiation Industry Award. Following his death in 1989, his family, friends and colleagues at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation contributed money to the University in his memory. The donors asked that the gift be used to endow a scholarship to be awarded to an outstanding student in Physics. The Council of the University has agreed to the foundation of a scholarship on the terms set out in these rules.

  6. All students completing the first or second year program in Physics within the schedule set by the faculty, and intending to go on to a major in Physics, are eligible for the scholarship.
  7. The scholarship may be awarded to a student who is already in receipt of another scholarship or prize.
  8. The selection committee may also make provision for a scholarship holder to travel within Australia at the completion of their pass degree with a major in Physics, for the purpose of furthering their education in Physics.
  9. The selection committee may decide not to award the scholarship in any year if there are insufficient funds, or if there is no student of sufficient merit. It may also share the scholarship between 2 or more students.
