The Ralph Chapman Scholarship in Public Policy (Rule 89)

Dr Ralph Chapman had an enduring interest in the promotion of the study of public policy through teaching and research in both academia and the public service. In order to encourage talented students to pursue postgraduate study in public policy, the School of Government has established this scholarship at the University of Tasmania.

The Academic Senate of the University has agreed to the foundation of a scholarship on the terms declared in these rules.
 


Rules
  1. The School of Government will fund a scholarship to be called ‘The Ralph Chapman Scholarship in Public Policy’. 
  2. The scholarship is to be awarded to a student who is eligible to undertake the Research Thesis unit in the Master of Public Policy program and has successfully completed the coursework components of the Master of Public Policy degree with the highest aggregate marks, the average of which is in the High Distinction grade. 
  3. The scholarship will be awarded by a selection committee comprising:  
    •  the Head of the School of Government  
    • the Coordinator of the Public Policy Postgraduate Program 
  4. In its selection, the committee may:  
    • also take into account the personal qualities and achievements of that student during the course of study 
    • not make an award in any year if no suitable candidate presents in any year. 
  5. The value of the scholarship will be determined from time to time by the Head of the School of Government and will be at least the value of the fees charged for the Research Thesis unit in the Master of Public Policy program. 
  6. The availability and the terms and conditions of the scholarship will be made known to students in the Public Policy postgraduate program by the Coordinator of the Public Policy Postgraduate Program.
