Tasmanian Spatial Industry Honours Scholarship (Rule 113)

The Tasmanian Spatial Industry Honours Scholarship has been established through donations received from the alumni and friends of the surveying and spatial sciences programmes at the University of Tasmania, to mark the 30th anniversary of the commencement of tertiary education in surveying in Tasmania.  The scholarship fund will remain open for future donations from alumni and industry.

The Tasmanian Spatial Industry Honours Scholarship will be available to a student enrolling in an Honours programme in surveying and spatial sciences offered by the School of Geography and Environmental Studies. 

Rules
  1. An annual amount of $3,500 will be available for one year of full time study and not necessarily awarded every year. 
  2. The scholarship will be awarded by a selection committee comprising: 
    • Head of School of Geography and Environmental Studies or nominee; 
    • Coordinator, Surveying and Spatial Sciences, School of Geography  and Environmental Studies, or nominee; 
    • Chair, Spatial Sciences Institute (Tas Region) or nominee. 
  3. The selection committee will be responsible for setting the detailed selection and performance criteria for the scholarship with regard to the intention of donors.  The proposed selection criteria will be that the student will: 
    • be entering an honours degree relating to the Spatial Industry; 
    • have a demonstrated need for, or benefit from, financial support; 
    • have demonstrated academic merit. 
  4. The scholarship is for one year of study subject to the student:  being in full time study or in part time study approved by the selection committee; 
  5. continuing to make satisfactory progress in the opinion of the selection committee; 
  6. not receiving another scholarship through the School of Geography and Environmental Studies, or deemed by the selection committee, in its absolute discretion, equivalent. ;
  7. The selection committee may terminate the student’s award if it considers in its absolute discretion, that the student’s progress is unsatisfactory.  
  8. The selection committee may vary the value of the scholarship from time to time.  
  9. The Scholarships Management Committee will determine all other matters concerning the scholarship, including advertising, application procedures and the method and time of payment.
