The David Paget Memorial Scholarship (Rule 78)
The late Dr David Paget made a significant contribution to mathematics in Tasmania during his 30 years as a teacher in the University’s Department of Mathematics. He developed in many high school students a passion for the discipline through his maths camps and in the coaching he provided for the Mathematics Olympiads.
The Mathematical Association of Tasmania, colleagues and friends of David Paget have contributed to a fund to provide an annual scholarship to a capable school leaver commencing a course at the University of Tasmania.
Academic Senate has agreed to the establishment of a scholarship.
Rules
- The amount of $9,000, together with any interest from time to time forms the endowment of a scholarship called “the David Paget Memorial Scholarship.
- The David Paget Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to the student with the highest score in Mathematics Specialised 5 (MSP 5C) commencing a course at the University of Tasmania which includes at least one unit in Mathematics. In the event that the highest score is shared by 2 or more such students, the Scholarships Management Committee may allocate the scholarship in accordance with any additional criteria it, in its absolute discretion, deems appropriate in the circumstances.
- The scholarship is tenable for up to 2 years provided the student studies full-time.
- The annual value of the scholarship, advertising and selection procedures, and time and method of payment will be set by the Scholarships Management Committee.
