John Turner Memorial Scholarship in Agricultural Science (Rule 108)
John Turner’s passion for the land began with his experience as a seventeen year old jackeroo.
Twenty seven years later, after running his own community pharmacies in New South Wales and Victoria, John purchased land in north-west Tasmania and set about establishing a Simmetal Stud farm. Seven years later he achieved his dream with the birth of the first full blood Simmetal calf.
Unforseen circumstances saw the end to his farming ambitions and John returned to Pharmacy – first as chief pharmacist at the North Western Hospital in Burnie and then later in positions at the Royal Hobart Hospital and in the Department of Health.
The last years of John’s working life were spent running his Lindisfarne Pharmacy with his wife Cheryl.
Because of John’s passion for the land, Cheryl would like to establish a scholarship in his name to support a deserving student in the field of agriculture who would benefit from financial support.
