Lesley Alcorso Award in Music (Rule 121)
Since its founding in 1915, the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) has worked for social and racial justice, human rights, the environment, sustainable futures and an end to war as a means of dealing with human conflicts. WILPF has branches throughout Australia and in 45 countries around the world.
The late Lesley Alcorso was for many years an active member of the Tasmanian branch, committed to the advancement of world peace, and with a particular interest in the area of the arts and Australian culture.
To celebrate her contribution to Tasmania and to espouse those issues dear to Lesley, the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom has established this award for a deserving woman commencing a course at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music. The Alcorso Foundation has further agreed to match the annual contribution made by WILPF to the student.
