Professor Bill Jackson Tasmania University Scholarship in Plant Science (Rule 46)

Professor Bill Jackson has been a highly respected leader, researcher and teacher in the School of Plant Science at the University of Tasmania for well over half a century. His legacy to this University is enormous and he has generously agreed to endow a perpetual scholarship in the School of Plant Science to encourage talented students in future to pursue excellence in the discipline.
The Academic Senate of the University has agreed to the foundation of an endowed scholarship in the terms declared in these rules.

Rules
  1. An amount of $100,000 donated by Professor Bill Jackson to the University of Tasmania, together with a contribution of $50,000 provided by the University Foundation, along with any interest from time to time forms the endowment a scholarship to be called the “Professor Bill Jackson Tasmania University Scholarship in Plant Science”.
  2. The scholarship is to be awarded annually to a student who is eligible to undertake an undergraduate or Honours course in Plant Science.
  3. The scholarship will be awarded by a selection committee comprising:
    • the Head of the School of Plant Science or a nominee;
    • Two other members of academic staff in the School of Plant Science elected by academic staff in the School of Plant Science.
  4. The selection committee will set the detailed selection and performance criteria having regard to the intention of the endowment.
  5. The Scholarships Management Committee will set the annual value of the scholarship from time to time, having regard to the income from the endowment.
  6. The Scholarships Management Committee will determine all other matters concerning the scholarship, including advertising, application procedures and the method and time of payment.
