The new Recovery Team Policy has been approved. The objectives of the Recovery Team Policy are to ensure that:

•   a Recovery Team is activated in a timely, methodical and efficient manner;

•   the Recovery Team is made up of suitably trained professionals;

•   interventions enacted are effective and guided by best practice to facilitate the emotional and psychological recovery of the affected community; and

•   there is professional post-incident follow-up.

This Policy applies University-wide to:

•   people directly exposed to the incident – those who suffer intense trauma including injury (e.g. students and staff);

•   relatives and friends – those who are grieving for the injured or affected (e.g. families, students and staff);

•   people with previous trauma or grief experience – those who are not directly affected by the incident but who may be affected because of a previous incident;

•   helpers, recovery and support personnel – recovery personnel who are required to maintain functional efficiency during the incident and cope with the psychological effects (e.g. staff, counsellors, administrators, and emergency service personnel from the University and external organisations);

•   community and people not directly involved – those in the community affected but not directly involved (e.g. parents, staff and students from neighbouring workplaces, those who could have been directly involved but were not because of chance or circumstance).

The Recovery Team Policy is supported by a local Recovery Team Procedure. The Procedure applies specifically to the Support and Equity Unit.  The Procedure should be read in conjunction with the sections of the Crisis Management and Recovery Team (CMRT) Plan relevant to Support and Equity Unit responsibilities in the event of any crisis or critical incident.
