Title
Political Mavericks in Australia |
Abstract The purpose of this PhD thesis is to, in simple terms,
determine what factors influence individual politicians
to become "mavericks" and, in exploring the
concept of being a political maverick, what might be
the costs and the benefits to those politicians, what
might be the impediments to becoming a maverick, and
what might they tell us about how debates are framed
in the electorate and voters primed to particular issues.
The research problem may be written as:
What motivates political mavericks in Australia, how
can their conduct be defined, and what are the consequences
of maverick behaviour: to the individual, to the party
and to the electorate?
